DescriptionThe result of a diagnostic test performed on a specimen in a non-laboratory environment.
Use

To record the result of a simple diagnostic test performed on a specimen within a non-laboratory or non-clinical (POCT) environment, usually by an individual or their carer.

Use cases include, but are not limited to:

  • a urine pregnancy test;
  • home blood glucose monitoring; or
  • weekly INR self-testing.
MisuseNot to be used to record the result of a test carried out in a laboratory or point of care test (POCT) setting - use the OBSERVATION.laboratory_test_result archetype for this purpose.
PurposeTo record the result of a diagnostic test performed on a specimen in a non-laboratory environment, including a self-test by the individual.

Test nameTest name: Name of the test carried out on nvestigation performed on the specimen(s).
It is strongly recommended that 'Test name' be coded with a terminology, for example LOINC or SNOMED CT. For example: 'Glucometer blood sugar'; or 'COVID-19 rapid antigen test'. The name may sometimes include specimen type and/or patient state, such as 'Fasting glucometer blood sugar' or 'Oral COVID-19 RAT'.
SpecimenSpecimen: Simple description about the specimen tested.
For example: nasal swab; blood; or urine.
ResultResult: Choice of:
  •  Quantity
  •  Coded Text
    • Negative [The test result is negative.]
    • Positive [The test result is positive.]
    • Indeterminate [It is not possible to tell if the test is positive or negative.]

Multimedia representationMultimedia representation: Digital image, video or diagram representing the test result.
Multiple formats are allowed but they should represent equivalent clinical content.
